Why did Fresno leaders ignore water problem?
As a longtime resident of northeast Fresno, I am dismayed by the water problems there. Concern for our physical well-being and our finances has become a daily source of conversation and stress. There is a growing sense of distrust; more and more it appears that the city knew of these problems, yet chose to look the other way.
Why? Was it easier to ignore the problem? I am by no means an alarmist, but when I see the levels of lead in our water, it is a concern. We rely on our elected officials to look out for us; we expect to have water that is safe, clean and clear – not brown. To add insult to injury, the higher water rates we are paying is further indication that this equation is seriously out of balance.
Perhaps if the city had addressed the problem as soon as it was discovered, we would not be in this position of worrying about our health and potentially the cost that we, as homeowners, will have to incur to fix their problem.
