Gun-control laws are destined to fail

The latest battery of gun-control laws passed by Sacramento will do little to keep the people safe anymore than the hundreds of anti-drug laws are keeping those pollutants out of our citizens. Criminals do not respect the laws (that’s why they are criminals) and these latest measures will not deter their efforts to procure firearms.

One of these new laws is nothing less than gun confiscation and it’s just the beginning of the effort. Our lawmakers do not like to see certain types of weapons in the hands of the people, but in recent days I have seen these same guns in the hands of police with the “dangerous” 30-round detachable magazines for use on – guess who? – the people.

The Second Amendment, along with all of the other nine amendments, was in direct response to abuses by our governors, at that time, the British. The first firefight between them and the colonists was a successful effort to halt the Redcoats’ effort to seize an armory, essentially disarming the people. Therefore, the Founding Fathers sought to preserve the inalienable right for the people to keep and bear arms – like it or not.
