Don’t make lawbreakers out of freedom-loving folks

Re: Chris D. DeLeon’s letter of June 25 on the Second Amendment. What our forefathers meant was that the people should be armed like those who would challenge our freedom.

That would be any government, domestic or foreign or any terrorists domestic or foreign. Of course, they probably didn’t anticipate today’s weapons. If gun control had been in effect at the time of the revolution, we might now be controlled by Great Britain. The Civil War may not have happened and we would still have slavery.

Then as now there are turncoats and crazies, and we must be able to fight back. There must be safeguards to keep domestic terrorists at bay. But don’t take the constitutional rights of the people away.

In most, if not all of the mass shootings of late, the only thing that stopped the bad guy was a good guy with a gun. Please don’t make lawbreakers of freedom-loving people.
