Proposition 47 is bad news
My son was riding his bike to work when a man at a bus stop fatally stabbed him. The man who did it should not have been on the streets. The Fresno Police Department knows this guy well. He has been arrested every year since 1998.
He had felonies on his record dropped to misdemeanors using the law as a tool. This law is Proposition 47 that Californians voted for in 2014, which gives felons the right to have charges reduced.
People are not aware that this awful law, called The Safe Neighborhood Act, replaced the Three Strikes Law.
Jerry Brown stated that he was glad we were going to save money. Well, maybe some money has been saved but my son is now dead. We, as Californians, did not know that Prop. 47 would fail so badly in just two years.
Our police department is overwhelmed arresting career criminals who manipulate the system. If they steal from a store less than $950 in merchandise, they get slaps on the wrists.
Our jails are overcrowded; the police are frustrated, and there are criminals on the streets who should be in prison.
