Old White Guys losing their grip

I’m an Old White Guy. I was born when high tech meant ringer washers, AM radios and hydraulic brakes. When white men ruled everything! Now, the words of Bob Dylan’s “The times they are a changing” ring truer than when written.

Our president is not an OWG. It’s likely the next one won’t be either. We have seen six justices on the U.S. Supreme Court who were not OWGs. Ditto for four secretaries of state. Twenty-six current U.S. senators are not OWGs. All that said, white men still rule “almost” everything.

But, almost everything is not good enough for many of my fellow OWGs, and they are angrily working through the four stages of grief, while supporting Trump!

The targets of their ire: political correctness, the press, colleges, scientists, non-Judeo-Christian religions, environmentalists, gays, lesbians, transgender, minorities, poor people, unions – to name a few.

But our OWG’s comfortable, preferred, spoiled status, is inching toward fairness. Electing Donald Trump and/or other regressive bigots will not take us back to those imaginary good ol’ days, that the angriest among us seem to want at all cost.

Most Americans are bigger than that.
