Faith in God, not humanity

The flaw in Andrew Fiala’s column (June 4) about the evident and snowballing demise of democracy in our country is that he and other “great” philosophers ascribe it to a lack of faith in humanity. While holding no fancy degree, or claiming any seat of distinction, I would offer this, it is exactly the opposite.

It is exactly the fact so many people have been convinced to dismiss faith in God, for faith in humanity, that will be our undoing. History has proven time and again that humanity is incapable of the self-discipline Mr. Fiala writes about.

Civilizations that have placed “faith” in humanity as the main tenant, rather than recognizing its short-sightedness in this foolish endeavor, have failed without exception. While I cite God as the ultimate solution, the fact is that Christian societies fall victim as well, as truth is diluted in the name of convenience, power or tolerance.
