In defense of Pope Pius XII
Contrary to Dick Haas’ anachronistic and foolish viewpoint whereby he opines Pope Pius XII supported Benito Mussolini and the Nazi war machine in WWII, the opposite is actually true (letter June 7); reinforced by research done by Gary Krupp and Mark Riebling, among many others.
Pius XII was not only instrumental in saving the lives of thousands of Jews in Rome, but also acted unilaterally in assisting thousands of others elsewhere in Europe. He also actively worked with operatives in attempts to overthrow Adolph Hitler.
Mr. Haas subscribes to a hateful perspective largely promulgated by John Cornwall and others who have an inherent loathing of traditional Catholicism, and who work constantly to undermine its authenticity, influence and truth.
