Politics according to Dad, Part 2
The letter by Rick Flores (May 11) about his father saying that the GOP was the party “of and for the rich” brought back old memories.
In 1950, I was at the local coffee shop in Exeter with my dad. As he talked with the local farmers and truckers, I listened. The conversation was always the same, politics mostly and farming and trucking.
When we left I asked my dad, “What is a Democrat?” He said “Oh, somebody that wants something for nothing!”
Dad passed away in 1995, and I have always thought Dad knew what he was talking about.
