A little soap goes a long way
Kudos to The Bee’s excellent investigation (“Living in Misery,” May 8).
In reading the articles on slumlord rentals, I wonder how much improvement could be made if each renter used a little soap and water and conducted spring cleaning like the rest of us do. Obviously there is much-needed work that only a carpenter, plumber or contractor can fix. But a little soap and water by the renter would go along way also. It is not all the fault or duty of the landlord, but also the renter. Responsibility needs to be shared.
A question: Does the governmental agency that oversees Section 8 have any responsibility? Maybe it could contribute the soap, brushes, rat traps, bug spray and buckets.
