McEwen’s idea isn’t that crazy

I think Bill McEwen hit a home run with his column “A wickedly crazy but best-for-Fresno mayoral race idea.”

Politics is a zero-sum game. The winner takes all; the losers go home. Which is a shame, because, as Mr. McEwen says, each candidate brings a unique and impressive skill set. To have all three working jointly on our behalf is exciting to contemplate.

Also, which Mr. McEwen didn’t mention, to become a great city we need to unify all our citizens. Lot’s of folks below Shaw Avenue don’t feel connected. I think both Henry Perea and H. Spees have skills to begin eliminating barriers which may exist (real or perceived). Also, because Mr. Perea has both city and county experience, he stands the best chance to create a more collaborative relationship between the two.

There are several opportunities which could bring impressive results. And Lee Brand has done wonders to bring a business-like approach to city affairs. So congrats to Mr. McEwen. Let’s hope the candidates look at this proposal seriously.

Robert Wilson, Fresno
