Feng shui and bathroom politics

Andrew Fiala provided a good column on “restroom politics,” but I would like to add one suggestion. A few years back my wife in exploring feng shui, suggested that the harmony and integrity of our bathroom would be better if we (both of us) always closed the lid on the toilet after each use.

We did, indeed, find that it covered that gaping hole into the sewer system and added a finished aspect to the bathroom. We have been doing this ever since.

Then it occurred to us that this solves the issue of seat up or seat down! After all, if the lid is closed, the toilet is now gender neutral … everyone starts and ends in the same state so no one gender has an advantage over the other.

So when you stumble into the bathroom in the middle of the night you know you have to make the proper preparations no matter what your intentions. Plus, as noted earlier, it improves the feng shui and adds a finished appearance to the toilet area.
