Here’s the plan for Fresno Unified success

As a parent, I take pride in seeing my children do well in school. As a California State University board trustee, I am driven to help students achieve a higher education. As a district advisory committee member of Fresno Unified School District, I am committed to creating better schools for all children.

Currently, we have an incredible opportunity to help our children. FUSD has millions of new tax dollars to help students with the most need – students who are low-income, English learners and foster youth. We can help our students by making sure FUSD increases family engagement by hiring additional support staff to work directly with families.

We can also make sure FUSD hires more emotional-support professionals, who are placed at schools that need them most. Finally, we should demand that FUSD creates an English Language Master Plan with community input and focuses on ensuring that all children achieve English proficiency.

I also believe in the asset of bilingual skills and that we should expand dual-immersion language programs.

Let’s tell FUSD how we want the money spent and hold them accountable for the success of our students.
