Lake was right to oppose new Clovis dress code

Thanks to Richard Lake for his school board vote to retain the dress code in Clovis Unified. Even though he was on the losing side, I appreciated his willingness to stand for what he, and many of us, believe contributes to the overall success of the district. One of the reasons that our family desired to live in the Clovis school district was its desire to have reasonable standards.

An important purpose of having local school board members is so that the values of that particular community can be reflected within the schools. I don’t believe there was anything so unreasonable in the dress code that it was necessary for outside agencies to intervene.

If there were individuals or families who absolutely couldn’t live under the codes as they were, there are certainly nearby districts who would have gladly accommodated them.
