Obama ignores Turkey’s evil assaults

While we are enjoying the circus that is the presidential election, we should not lose sight of the circus that is President Obama and his relationship with Turkey, arguably the root of all evil.

During and after the Armenian genocide, Turkey tried to destroy not only the Armenian race, but any trace of their Christian faith. As we know, the Turks employed Kurds to do much of their dirty work. One victim of this hatred was the Surp Giragos church in Dickranagert (now Diyarbakir), in southeastern Turkey.

A century later, the Kurds realize who the real enemy is. They also know who the victims are, and the Kurds, including the Kurdish mayor of Diyarbakir, rebuilt this church in conjunction with Turkish Armenians – it is spectacular and the largest Christian church in the Middle East.

However, Turkey’s jealously and hatred continues and last week the Turkish government confiscated this and other churches. The Obama administration has “raised the matter” with the central and local governments. Armenians want back their churches – the one stolen last week, and those stolen last century. Instead of raising the matter, perhaps this president can raise the bar and help deliver justice.
