A new GOP began in 2014

It was not surprising to hear Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, claim that Donald Trump was “not a Republican.” Sorry, Sen. McConnell, Republican voters get to make that call.

Trust is the currency of politics. In 2014, economics professor David Brat beat House Majority Leader Eric Cantor. His win signaled a course change. Brat said: “I’m an economist. I’m pro-business. I’m pro-big business making profits. But what I’m absolutely against is big business in bed with big government.” He said of Cantor, “If you’re in big business, he’s good for you. But if you’re in any other group, it’s not good for you.”

To the vast surprise of insiders and Congressman Cantor, the voters listened. The promise of 2014 was a future with more of the same. And, that’s what happened. Trust is returning. The course charted by Brat continues.
