ADA lawsuit abuse in Fresno

As a property owner in Fresno, I am appalled that there are people preying on small business for personal financial gain. One group has made demands recently for money and threatened to sue small business owners, mainly near downtown, for violations of the Americans with Disabilities Act.

What is disturbing is that some choose a target with no intention of patronizing the business, claim an ADA violation and threaten to sue in federal court. Most disturbing, they advise the owner that all can be avoided by paying them money. The dictionary defines this as extortion.

Before you are targeted, contact a Certified Access Specialist (CASp) to inspect your property. This report affords you certain rights, may lower your liability in the event of a claim and can be used to defend yourself in court.

Many pay these extortionists who move on to another easy target. Know the law. Education is power. Call the city of Fresno ADA Commission for help. If you are targeted, contact an ADA attorney. It can save you thousands!
