Helping others is Christian thing to do

We often hear how our country was founded on religion and “Christian values.” This is correct to a point because it was more about people escaping religious persecution. Our forefathers were “God-fearing” and believed that “all men are created equal.”

But that referred more to all white upper-class men – not people of color or women. Also they were slave owners. Although there is some history of this country punishing people who deviated from the Christian belief (witch trials), we are a country that allows a person to believe as they wish without persecution.

The religious conservatives want to remove entitlement programs and programs that help those less fortunate while berating the liberals for wanting these programs. But isn’t that exactly what the Bible preaches, to help those less fortunate?

How many religious people have gone to other countries in the name of God, with supplies to help only to be tortured, killed and have those items confiscated. At least this country works hand in hand to help support programs for the less fortunate. Are there people who take advantage, yes! Is there need for improvement, yes! So what does the Bible say?
