This feminist backs Sanders

I have been a feminist for decades, much of that time spent in political activism. There is no issue more important to me than gender equality.

However, identity politics comes up short if we look only at the equality issue and ignore the numerous vital subjects with which the U.S. president must deal. Hillary Clinton is good on women’s rights. However a Clinton presidency would continue the same corrupt system of campaign finance practices that are decimating whatever shred of democracy we have left.

Without reforming the laws which have institutionalized corruption throughout our political system, nothing else we try will work. Hillary has been and is a centrist Democrat doing verbal contortions to look like a progressive because of Bernie Sanders’ leftward pressure.

Bernie is who Bernie says he is; Hillary is playing the pols’ game of saying whatever she thinks a given audience wants to hear; not convincing those of us who are at least minimally politically astute.

The secrecy she demands surrounding her $225,000 speeches to the Goldman Sachs of the world likely does not include the self-identifier “progressive.” Do you want this country to work for all of us? Give Bernie a chance.
