Turkish historian illuminates dark past
Thank you for the article (Feb. 12) written regarding Turkish historian Umit Kurt and his lecture at Fresno State. Mr. Kurt brings an interesting prospective; he is a Turkish historian who learned of the Armenian presence in Turkey when he noticed writing on a wall in an old building.
I am thankful for Mr. Kurt and people like him who are questioning ancient items and buildings in western Turkey that clearly were there before the first Turks arrived in the region. Despite attempts to destroy such buildings, I am glad some of them still exist.
This April 24, during the commemoration of the Armenian genocide, I will remember the “Umit Kurts” from Turkey and pray that more of them ask questions and inquire about their dark past.
