Awbrey inspired many in the Valley

I read with sadness of the passing of an educational giant among us, Marvin Awbrey.

It was an enormous privilege to have followed his lead as we worked together, witnessing as he inspired students to embrace learning at the Fresno Unified School District.

Marv was a pioneer in this Valley when he started the still-thriving high school mock moot court program some 30 years ago. His passion to educate was infectious, and his gentle enthusiasm influenced countless judges and attorneys to dedicate their time to make ideas become realities for the children of Fresno and beyond. He was fair, relentless, kind, giving, tenacious, grateful and inspiring.

Those of us fortunate enough to cross his path are eternally better for that opportunity. May he rest in earned peace.

Lawrence J. O’Neill, U. S. district judge
