This is in regard to the volunteers taking a census of the homeless two weeks ago. I work downtown by Golden State Boulevard and Church Avenue. The field that used to be part of Gallo Wines is full of homeless people, and I surely didn’t see anyone around here counting that day.
It is a whole world over there. They sell drugs and sex, have all sorts of furniture, mattresses, lots and lots of trash, and probably the kitchen sink. I know there is a toilet in the street along with a couch or two. I hear some have guns.
The Fresno Fire Department knows this area pretty well from putting out the fires burning the field and bushes and jumping the road to almost get to our workplace. Seems like a small city to me that should be counted.
