Spread the word about Zika dangers

Being that I work at a local hospital in the intensive care unit, the Zika virus is alarming to me. It’s as if some Fresno County residents don’t realize how serious mosquito viruses can be.

The same mosquitoes (Aedes aegypt) that are now carrying the Zika virus also carry diseases such as yellow fever and the West Nile virus. It seems like every year some new terrifying virus spreads to the United States.

I’ve seen the repercussions of some of these mosquito viruses firsthand. It can start with flu-like symptoms but turns into a nightmare quickly. The scary fact about Zika is the affect on unborn children.

Education is the best defense against the Zika virus. Going door-to-door to educate families would be life saving for some families. I would be the first to volunteer if such a campaign were started.
