Just give us one season of the Raiders
Paul Loeffler made some great points in his Valley Voices commentary (Feb. 2) calling for the Oakland Raiders to move to Fresno.
A lot of people are, justifiably, skeptical of such a plan. So, instead of the monumental task of a permanent move, what if Fresno made a bid to host the Raiders at Bulldog stadium just for next season?
The Raiders are looking for a home for next year, and this would not be the first (or last) time an NFL team played in a college stadium for a season. It would also be a mutually beneficial relationship. The city and university could offer the stadium at a lower price than the much-larger Oakland Coliseum, and the cost of everything from food to office space to housing would be much cheaper than in the Bay Area.
Think of all the people who would come to Fresno from throughout the state for games, and of all the money that would come with them. Even if the Raiders only stayed one season and moved on, it would be a huge shot in the arm for Bulldog Stadium’s planned expansion and the Valley as a whole.
