Hanson should read Assemi’s essay

A few weeks ago, Victor Davis Hanson wrote that he would “just once” like to hear an immigrant spokesman say they would like to stay in America because it, “is wonderful, and treats people with respect and dignity.”

It is to be hoped that Mr. Hanson read the article by Darius Assemi in the Jan. 24 Bee, where Mr. Assemi wrote, “I became a U.S. citizen in 1992 by choice.” Later in the article, “America is the greatest nation on earth because of our opportunities and freedoms.”

If this one example is not enough for Mr. Hanson, I invite him to watch the HBO documentary “Citizen U.S.A.:A 50 State Road Trip.” In it you will find many people who know exactly why they emigrated to this country and how extremely grateful they are that America exists.

If this does not satisfy Mr. Hanson, then I would say he has become, as his hero Spiro Agnew would say, “a nattering nabob of negativism.”
