Eager students light the way

When the power went out at Hoover High School, chemistry students used the lights on their cell phones to illuminate the room and complete a Double Replacement Reaction assignment. Special to The Bee

With five minutes left in my third-period class, the power went out at Hoover High School in Fresno. We were right in the middle of finishing up a Double Replacement Reaction problem and there was an audible groan. I said, “Well, we can’t see so how am I going to finish going over this problem?”

One student pulled out a phone, others followed and they used their cell phones to light the board so we could finish going over the problem. Who says kid don’t want to learn or care? You are wrong! They care and want to learn. They lit the way in the darkness today. Three cheers for my third-period chemistry students in Room 68!
