Thumbs down on gun editorial and Obama

In its Jan. 7 editorial, The Bee cheered President Obama saying he would “bypass Congress. …”

Everywhere else in the world this would be a coup – overthrowing the government and the Constitution. The Bee should have condemned him and demanded that he be impeached for this act of treason. We have two chambers of Congress so potential laws can be debated and amended before they are sent to the president for approval or veto.

The Bee correctly pointed out that this speech was given in front of a crowd of his “advocates.” If you did not agree with him, you were not allowed in. This was a partisan pep rally where opinions were pre-screened. That is an indication why he cannot get his laws passed, he does not tolerate dissent or disagreement, the cornerstone of the democratic process.

The editorial also stated congressional Republicans refused to take the obvious step of prohibiting people on terrorism watch lists from purchasing guns, without pointing out that neither San Bernardino shooters were on a terrorism watch list.

The Bee’s readers deserve better.
