Castros and parks are good for Fresno’s future
Bill McEwen was perceptive in his Dec. 31 article. His thoughts on Joseph and Mary Castro and then on the lack of parks in southeast Fresno should make everyone take notice.
The Castros have taken the university under their wings and have been dynamic in both efforts and results. Once again, the university has someone at the helm who believes in our young people, their worth and potential. I applaud the Castros for becoming beacons of light in an environment where darkness had crept in. Fresno State is, once again, a great university, in the best of hands.
Southeast lacks a regional park as we see in the north (Woodward), central (Roeding) and west (Kearney). Our families need a regional park. At last the city is partnering with Fresno Unified School District to keep a few school grounds open. We did this at Burroughs Elementary and it was a vibrant success. Not continuing that program frustrated us all.
Southeast Fresno needs a regional park now! Find a way; whether this mayor or the next, just find a way. It’s the responsibility of elected officials to do so. The community will help, but it is City Hall that must come through.
