Seek what truly matters in life

I reflect on this journey I am on. What is this life I am meant to lead? The gift of Christmas is Jesus. He was given that we might live and have life to the fullest. Do I reflect that? Often, maybe even the majority of the time, no. The battle of knowing who I am and living it consistently seem at times overwhelming and impossible.

It’s not, however, and the walls I hit are too often built by myself. Getting caught up in materialism, striving for the next big thing, pinning my happiness on my next vacation and being aware of all the news cycles have left me weary, tired and honestly bored. That is the good news. These things were never supposed to sustain me or give me peace and joy. If they did, I would never seek.

The reason we celebrate Christmas is the very thing that we all strive for. Relevance, hope, peace, joy, love, compassion and goodness are not found outside of that wonderful birth. To remember and live this daily, that is life.

As the New Year approaches, may we all resolve to find the message of the manger.
