Enforce current laws on property owners

A recent headline in The Bee said it best: “More teeth needed in Fresno code enforcement.” (Dec. 18)

There are laws already in place to ensure that no one has to live in unhealthy and unsafe conditions. The city has always had the power to protect residents from unhealthy conditions simply by enforcing existing laws.

“Doubling down on education” for renters and property owners is simply not enough. Property owners know that rotting floorboards, roach infestations, failing heating systems, and the myriad other conditions that plague Fresno renters are at odds with the law.

We can’t have any more Summersets in our city. Thousands of properties in Fresno are unhealthy and unsafe. The city needs to improve living conditions for all families to help create one healthy Fresno by enforcing current laws.
