Hanson’s troubled reign limps on

Fresno Unified School District is embroiled in an FBI investigation over allegations of construction contract improprieties. Superintendent Michael Hanson, as well as a number of his staff, were caught using the Cyber Dust phone app that deletes any record of communications.

The district spent close to $360,000 in legal fees on a special needs student and ended up paying $216,000 to the family for fees they incurred. The district has been cited numerous times for being out of compliance in matters of special needs.

Teachers have petitioned for more security on school campuses. Out of the 856 school districts in California, Fresno Unified was ranked as No. 744, down 14 from the previous year and well below Los Angeles (No. 591) with its many publicized problems. The district has not made any appreciable student academic gains, and the school board still gave Mr. Hanson a favorable report card. Is there something I’m missing?
