Ban on Muslims aligns with history
The Bee Editorial Board wrote a scathing denunciation of Donald Trump Dec. 9, asking if he ever read the Constitution or American history, all because he said Muslim immigration should be stopped until we have a better understanding of the threat it poses.
The board should read “8 U. S. Federal Code, Paragraph 1182 (f) suspension of entry or imposition of restrictions by president,” which states: “Whenever the President finds that the entry of any aliens or of any class of aliens into the United States would be detrimental to the interests of the United States, he may by proclamation, and for such period as he shall deem necessary, suspend the entry of all aliens or any class of aliens as immigrants or nonimmigrants, or impose on the entry of aliens any restrictions he may deem to be appropriate.”
This “still current” U.S. Law was passed in 1952 by Democrats and was used by President Carter in 1979 to register and deport Iranian students and to temporarily stop the immigration of Iranians (who were all Muslims) to the U.S. How is that different from what Trump proposed?
