Christmas walk relates to Fulton

On Dec. 2, thousands of Fresnans walked the walk – literally – by participating in one of only two car-free Christmas Tree Lane nights. This demonstrates that, when provided with access, safe passage, interesting visuals and the opportunity to walk, Fresnans respond in droves.

If the city would bestow similar attention and resources on the art-rich Fulton Mall, and also create more special walking events at this unique cultural heritage site, there is no doubt that thousands of Fresno families would enjoy the healthy benefits of exercise and a fun time there as well.

By the way, has the city or county ever bothered to study the impact on particulate levels of all those cars idling on Christmas Tree Lane every evening during the season? I know if I lived nearby, I’d sure want them to.

Let’s have more car-free nights on Christmas Tree Lane and keep a restored, well-lit, properly maintained, and publicized Fulton Mall free of cars, too. Fresno’s lungs, hearts and spirits will be thankful if we do.
