New Smart & Final infuses central Fresno with life

Plagued by creeping blight in the past couple of decades, central Fresno has a new infusion of life with the new Smart & Final.

Like many, I had always thought of this retailer as a restaurant supply or a place where you went to buy a No. 10 can of beans for a large gathering.

I was pleasantly surprised to find that not only does this grocery still carry the larger sizes but also sizes more appropriate for small families and singles. I find the prices, quality and selection amazing, especially the fresh, quality produce, meats and selection of organic products.

Gushing yes, apologize no. What a pleasure to have a clean, well-run, quality, affordable market, with great shopping carts as my “go to” right in my neighborhood. When a good, solid business takes a chance locating within older neighborhoods and is successful, others follow and the area changes for the better.

I write this letter not because I have any hidden agenda or financial interest in Smart & Final, but rather because I am a lifelong resident of this area with memories of a flourishing, well cared for, proud central Fresno. Please take a chance, and support our neighborhood businesses.
