Obama steadied our damaged ship
Considering the seriousness of the matter: Whether you like it or not, through innovation, President Obama was able to make repairs to the damaged rudder; had leaks plugged, and got the ship of state off the rocks and into calmer waters through one of the worst storms in the history of the country.
Even with them being in the same boat he had to contend with the party of “no” and “we hope he fails.”
The next president must be capable of taking the helm from day one; lest the ship be in troubled waters again or crashed up on the rocks, not with a contrived recession but a full-blown depression.
Perhaps candidates should not be telling Americans that yesterday’s manufacturing jobs will return, when it is impractical to think that Americans will return to working in cotton and steel mills. Continued innovation is needed.
Captains do not man a ship alone. Americans are the crew, not pirate financial backers. Obsessing with being president is like being a Captain Ahab. Eventually, the whale will get you, taking down the crew and the ship.
