Keep guns; laws don’t stop criminals

This is in response to Julio Mastro’s letter “Legislation can reduce gun crime” (Oct. 18). You can not legislate morals or consciousness. The criminals have guns, but they are not legally owned and registered by them. All you want to do is take guns or ammunition away from the law-abiding citizens of this country.

We outlawed drugs, and druggies can still get drugs. They are prevalent. How many people have died from drunk drivers? How many from overdoses? How have laws helped them? Our prisons are full of law breakers. We have a right to protect ourselves and defend our property.

Maybe we need to look at what our young people are being taught at home and school, or on the Internet and TV. Where is the supervision? What are parents doing?
