Neighborhood hopping on Halloween
When did it become socially acceptable to caravan multiple families to safe neighborhoods on Halloween?
My normally empty street became a stadium parking lot on Halloween night. I counted seven cars pull up at the same time, then proceed to unload five to seven people from each car for their mission. Apparently the costume of choice for the adults was a Raiders jersey and most didn’t need the extra calories from their children’s expected haul.
What are we teaching our children when you have to drive several miles to a safe area for you and your children to trick or treat? The children were dressed appropriately and the parents even ensured their safety using glow-in-the-dark necklaces and bracelets.
Perhaps we take this next year we make more of an effort to make each neighborhood safe or at the very least, save the gas and use the savings to buy candy for the children and adults and stay home.
