Guns save lives
Larry Johnson of Clovis (letter Oct. 15) thinks fewer guns will result in fewer people dying from gun violence. He thinks the 12,564 dead from guns last year would say, “Take away the guns and more people live.”
The National Self-Defense Survey and the National Crime Victimization Survey have estimated that 55,000 to 80,000 people used a gun to defend themselves last year. If Mr. Johnson were to ask these people if taking their guns away would save lives, he would get a very different response.
