Sacramento priorities ignore Native Americans’ salient needs

While Native Americans continue to be decimated by multigenerational alcoholism, diabetes, unemployment and spirit-crushing poverty, it is heartening that our venerated Gov. Jerry Brown has signed a bill banning the use of “Redskins” as a school mascot name (article, Oct. 12).

Irrefutably, the Native Americans can have no more reservations that their most salient need is finally being addressed by the wirepullers in Sacramento.
