Theresa Caputo preys on the gullible
I was stunned to read your coverage of scam artist Theresa Caputo coming to bilk the good, but gullible, people of Fresno. Your fawning article was more like a piece from her publicist rather than an article in a newspaper that purports to do real journalism.
Why is there no mention of the simple fact that there is simply no reliable evidence of anyone ever communicating with dead people? Why not enlist a professor from Fresno State to invite her to participate in a controlled experiment while in town and then publicize her refusal?
Your staff shows no reluctance to write critical reviews of films that come to Fresno to make money. Why not do the same for this kind of nonsense? People paid at least $40 and up to $100 to see this woman with the big hair and even bigger nails perform her swindle.
It’s true that our city is filled with psychics and palm readers who also prey on ignorance. However, they don’t draw huge crowds to the Save Mart Center. This was a news event, and you should have covered it as news, not as an adoring member of her fan club.
