Good riddance, Speaker Boehner
The Bee’s recent editorial lamenting the resignation of Republican House Speaker John Boehner was laughable.
It was duly noted that there was no room to list his accomplishments while in office, because there were none, unless one considers an additional 8 trillion in federal debt something to celebrate.
Under his “leadership,” Republicans abdicated their responsibility to produce 12 annual appropriations bills to fund the federal government, instead opting for a convenient and foolish continuing resolution process primarily designed to help the GOP avoid making any difficult spending choices.
So now we are stuck with a phony “shutdown” process, which allows everyone in Washington to duck and cover.
I suspect what The Bee was really lamenting was the loss of Obama’s chief enabler in Washington. For many of the rest of us, it is simply good riddance.
