Check out peace books in library

In honor of the 50th anniversary of the founding of the Fresno Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom (WILPF) and 100th anniversary of International WILPF, the Fresno County Central Library joined with WILPF to hold a reception in the Saroyan Gallery honoring Margarita Engle, local award-winning children’s book author, Sept 12.

Ms. Engle has won two Jane Addams Peace Association awards for her books, “The Surrender Tree” and “Silver People,” as well as the Newbery, PEN USA, Pura Belpré awards and others.

During September, display cases at the entrance of the library will highlight the history of WILPF and the Jane Addams Peace Association. The cases are filled with award-winning Jane Addams’ children’s books that promote peace, social justice and environmental responsibility. WILPF Fresno branch has donated sets of these books annually to the Central Library for the last 30 years. We invite the public to visit the Central Library to see these amazing displays.

WILPF, Fresno branch, thanks the Fresno County Public Library, Friends of the Central Library and especially librarians, Lisa Lindsay and Joy Sentman-Paz.

Ann Carruthers, chairperson, library committee, Fresno WILPF branch
