Clovis water mandates are unfair

Meter readings every two months for the year 2013 is how the City of Clovis is using to mandate a reduction of 36 percent or face a $50 penalty.

Aside from residential sewer $57.66, recycling single family $6.74, street sweeping $4.50, refuse-residential $45.44, refuse green waste $9.88, water residential $23.64, for current daily usage .2413, I’m being asked to further reduce my water usage for the months of October to December to 0.1667 daily target water usage or face a penalty of $50. So instead of receiving a bill for $147.86, if I don’t meet the city’s goal I will be billed $197.86.

This reduction is almost impossible for my family. There is no grass, trees are barely watered, one shower a day, not flushing, dish washing and laundry only when necessary.

I was told the San Jose averaged the water use of all their citizens first, making it fair everyone.

Clovis has to recoup the money lost from its mandated reduction of 36 percent somewhere and may be penalizing unfairly people who are already low-water users.
