Quiet Gov. Brown’s partisan hacks

A key member of Gov. Jerry Brown’s “water team,” John Laird, secretary, California Natural Resources Agency, joined with local legislator Assemblyman Henry T. Perea to author an op-ed in the Aug. 23 Bee. It supports Gov. Brown’s twin tunnel project, while ignoring the continued assault on our historical surface water supply by the environmental ideologues in the Brown Administration, Felicia Marcus, chairperson, State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).

Communication is important between our Valley and the Brown administration. However, representatives must be forceful in challenging policies that are devastating this area. Assemblyman Adam Gray, D-Merced, has been adamant in challenging the SWRCB’s demand that an additional 35 percent of Central Valley’s rivers must be devoted to the environment.

Our legislators should represent this area first and not appear to be partisan hacks for the governor.
