Trash collector: Stop, dump, replace can – then drive
To the green-waste collector who drives the route in Fresno, northwest of Palm and Belmont avenues: Please take a moment to realize the impact of the seconds you save on your route.
We take our cans to the street the night before and bring them in as soon as we can the day of pick-up. Since I work, it is my wife who usually brings in the can that you pick up, dump in your truck as you continue to creep down the street and then set it down 15 to 20 feet beyond where we placed it. That may save time on your route, but that also doubles the distance that my wife walks to bring the cans back.
That may seem minor, but to a woman who spent 13 years walking a postal route and now suffers from the effects in her 60s, it’s a big difference. Take a moment to think about the effects of your rolling collection.
