Planned Parenthood follows the law

Certain partisan members of Congress are leaping to judgment over a heavily edited video, recorded apparently illegally, in yet another of the incessant initiatives to defund Planned Parenthood.

The fact is that those behind this video sting tried and failed to get Planned Parenthood to take substantial sums of money for the procurement of fetal tissue.

The fact is that the sums being discussed, $30 to $100, for the costs of transportation and storage only, are expressly authorized by federal law applicable not just to Planned Parenthood, but to any other organization, and Planned Parenthood is in full compliance with that law.

The fact is that the law in question, to make such research materials available, has been responsible for tremendous breakthroughs, saving literally millions of lives.

But if members of Congress don’t like the law they passed, and want to shut down such important medical research, then the debate should be about whether to change the law or not, and not about whether to blame Planned Parenthood for following it to the letter.

Millions of women depend on Planned Parenthood for health care! Keep your hands off my health care and my body!
