Fracking defender is just a pitchman for petroleum

Regarding the pro-fracking position of the California Director of Energy in Depth, Dave Quast (Aug. 14): This entity is a front group financed by the American Petroleum Institute. Mr. Quast left that part out. The sole purpose of the DED is to use obscure “facts” to promote this destructive process and attack critics of such unsound practices.

He justifies fracking by stating the it only affects 0.00062 percent of the state’s freshwater withdrawals. Using his analogy, if 99.99938 percent of your swimming pool is clean, the turd floating in it is insignificant. A little pollution? Ah, so what? It’s not that bad. As with many lobbyists, for-profit pitchmen often lack credibility.
