Let the court decide legality of school policies
As a retired Fresno Unified School District employee, it is with exasperation that I read the opinions that demonize lease leaseback, Superintendent Michael Hanson and Deputy Superintendent Ruth Quinto.
Recognize where this is coming from, from those who didn’t prosper from the arrangement. I’m sorry, the same thing happens in every competitive arena from job selection to where the next Olympics takes place. There is only one happy winner; every other candidate thinks you made a mistake. Just ask them.
So now there is a committee that wants to remove Mr. Hanson and some of the board. Nice. Realize there are other unspoken motives driving this. If we are to believe what was written in The Bee several times, the only reparation is for Harris Construction to pay the $37 million back to FUSD. So here is the superintendent’s disciplinary action; “Mr. Hanson, you got the district a free middle school? We’ll have none of that!”
So before you buy in to the histrionics and light your torches to drive the monsters out of the Education Center, let the process take its course and let the State Supreme Court decide. Try to remember how much these leaders have done for Fresno. We owe them that much.
