Clovis’ Floyd Buchanan’s blind side was teaching special needs children
Well, yes, Floyd Buchanan of Clovis Unified School District had a vision and loved kids: white, middle-class, motivated, well-behaved, average-IQ kids.
He absolutely refused to address: behavior problems or high IQ, or borderline IQ/slow/learning disabled/AD or ADHD kids. All mentally retarded, emotionally ill or physically handicapped kids were offed onto Fresno County special education programs. If they didn’t qualify, they were ignored or excluded.
Activist parents were despised, derided, harassed or ignored until they either gave up or moved to Fresno Unified School District.
“Accommodation” was not in his vocabulary.
Behavior was everything and after that, sports.
