No guns in senior center

Recent public shootings like the ones in Louisiana and Tennessee show us that our gun-control laws are totally inadequate. The system is broken.

I’m both pro-gun and pro-gun control. I owned two pistols for home defense, and handled them appropriately. But it’s way too easy for criminals and the mentally ill to get guns.

You’re much more likely to get murdered in Louisiana that California, because Louisiana’s gun-control laws are so weak.

To do adequate background checks on gun buyers will require increased taxes. The NRA, cowardly legislatures, gun companies and misguided conservative voters have blood on their hands.

A conservative friend recently said residents of our senior center should be allowed to carry guns everyplace on campus except our restaurants. That’s insane.

If I tried a quick draw in a shoot-don’t shoot situation, I’d probably blow off my own foot or kill an innocent bystander. Most of our residents are elderly, some are infirm or have mental health issues.

Gun control laws should be nationwide, strict and better funded.
