Don’t cheat Oakhurst’s students
It’s no secret that eastern Madera County has been plagued with low tax investment in spite of what we pay.
Our one park and our community center are funded by local citizens. Our roads and bridges receive little and are awful compared to neighboring counties. That said, it looks like we’re in for neglect from the State Center Community College District. The Blueprint For Our Community Colleges as authored by trustees Miguel Arias and John Leal states that a potential $500 million bond should not be used for isolated campuses like Oakhurst.
Please understand, as parents, we desperately look for ways to provide opportunities for our children in the mountains and not have them at 18 years old driving a dangerous highway to school in Fresno. Our existing community college is in a small parking lot with no room for growth. As an underserved area, we need and deserve a vibrant, viable and complete community college.
